Frequently asked questions
Where are my memories stored?
In your iPhone’s storage, in the area reserved for Appesi. There is no account and no server they are sent to: nobody but you can see them. The flip side is that if you lose the phone without having made a backup, the memories go with it.
How do I back up the diary?
From Settings › Backup inside the app. Appesi creates a single file holding every memory, photo, video and preference, and lets you choose where to save it: iCloud Drive, another service, or your computer. The file carries a signature for each item, so on import the app can tell if something was lost along the way.
Do it now and then, and above all before changing phone.
I’ve changed iPhone. How do I move the diary across?
Export the backup from the old phone, install Appesi on the new one and use Settings › Backup › Import, choosing that file. If the import is interrupted you can resume it: the app remembers where it stopped and won’t create duplicates.
Note that the free trial months don’t travel with the backup, as they are tied to the individual device. A Premium subscription does: it restores with your Apple Account.
Why can the in-app camera only photograph today?
Because a photo taken now and filed under yesterday would be a lie about the date, and this is a diary. For past days you can still pick a photo from your library, use a video, or write a thought.
How long can videos be?
Three seconds, and that length is always available, subscription or not. With Premium you can go up to five or seven seconds: you pick the length before recording or importing, with the buttons above the preview.
If you take a longer video from your library, the app keeps its first seconds, according to the length you chose. Videos you have already saved are not shortened if the subscription ends.
How do I fill in a day I missed?
Tap the empty day on the line or in the calendar and add the memory exactly as you would for today. To recover a whole month in one go, Fill the days pulls content from your photo library day by day: it is one of the Premium features, and you have a free month to try it.
How do I cancel Premium?
In Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone, or from the Manage subscription button on the app’s Premium screen. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for, and everything you have made up to then stays yours and readable.
I paid but Premium isn’t active.
Open the Premium screen and tap Restore purchases, making sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with. If the purchase is awaiting confirmation — which happens with some payment methods, or when a parent has to approve it — Premium activates on its own as soon as Apple confirms the transaction.
If nothing has changed after a few hours, write to us and attach your Apple receipt.
I’d like a refund.
Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple, which is the seller. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, signing in with your Apple Account. We don’t collect payment directly and cannot issue refunds — but if the problem is with the app, do tell us: we’ll try to fix it.
The film of the month won’t build, or takes a long time.
The film is assembled entirely on the phone, so a month full of videos takes a few minutes and a bit of battery. If an item lives in iCloud rather than on the device, the app has to download it first and will tell you so.
If the build fails, check you have enough free storage and try again: a failure does not use up your free month.
Why does the app ask for my location?
Only to write the name of the place under memories you photograph inside the app. You can refuse: the app works just the same, the place simply won’t appear. To turn coordinates into a readable name the app sends them to Apple’s geocoding service, and saves only the result, without the house number. It is explained in full in the privacy policy.
The Polaroids move too much, or videos start on their own.
The swaying follows the phone’s movement and stops by itself if you switch on Reduce Motion in iOS accessibility settings. Automatic video playback on the line can be turned off in Appesi’s settings.
How do I delete everything?
From Settings › Delete all data inside the app. This is final and cannot be undone: if you think you might change your mind, export a backup first. Uninstalling the app also removes all content from the device.
Is there an iPad or Android version?
Not for now. Appesi is built for iPhone, in portrait. If an iPad version would interest you, tell us: requests count.
Which languages does it support?
Italian and English. The app follows the language set on your phone.
